If you buy the sacrificial animal early

Old Dhaka businessman Md. Abdul Gani has come to Gabtoli market with his three daughters and two grandsons to buy cows for sacrifice. He is looking at the cows and bargaining around the market. When asked why he came to buy cows so early, he said, “There is joy in buying sacrificial animals. If you buy them early, you can buy the cows after looking at them carefully. As the day goes by, the crowd at the market increases. It is difficult to come to the market with young children and buy cows. Every year they wait to buy sacrificial cows. I buy cows early for their happiness.” Asked whether buying cows early means there is a lack of care and maintenance, he said, “There is no lack of care. Every member of the family takes care of the cows. I have also prepared a place to keep the cows.” Like Abdul Gani, many others buy sacrificial animals well in advance. But due to lack of care, these animals become sick and weak. Veterinary surgeon Zakirul Islam advised to be aware of this issue.

Suitable Habitat

Choose a dry, clean and shaded high place to keep the cow. Take care that water does not stagnate during the rainy season. Cows cannot be kept in damp places. To protect them from mosquitoes, make arrangements for various mosquito sprays, coils, and mosquito nets. Animals often fall ill in summer. For this, make arrangements for fans.

Food

Sacrificial animals are raised with great care in the home of the householder. These animals are used to eating regular food, which is why they become weak and lose weight if their food is changed a little. They often fall ill. When they bring them home from the market, first make them drink water mixed with saline. Feeding the animal saline mixed with cold water makes it easier to overcome stress. For this, make arrangements for nutritious food [husk, rice, kheil, raw grass, hay]. If necessary, find out about the cow’s diet from the person from whom you bought the cow. Avoid giving heavy food excessively or at the wrong time. You can feed the animal ready feed purchased from the market.

Eliminate Fear

Animals know their owner. They are already very scared when they are separated from their owner. Therefore, it is very important to treat the animal humanely. After buying the animal, do not run or force it, but bring it home calmly. This may tire or frighten the animal.

Regular Bathing

The animal should be bathed regularly with normal water. To remove dirt and sweat from the animal’s body, it is necessary to bathe it regularly, especially in hot and humid weather, every day. Rub the dirt stuck to the animal’s skin and clean it. Clean the mud stuck between the legs and hooves thoroughly.

Pure Water

Do not feed the sacrificial animal tap water. Give it pure water to drink. Otherwise, the cow will get sick. Give it water to drink in a large container where it can be dipped in water. Along with water, you can mix rice starch, rice powder, broken wheat, fresh vegetable peels and give it to the animal.

Do not Harass

Do not tie the sacrificial animal on the side of the road, on the sidewalk or in front of the gate of the house. If you keep these in open places, visitors and small children harass the animal. Hit it with sticks. Force it to lie down and stand while resting. This cannot be done. These animals come to you after traveling a long distance. Therefore, they are tired. So arrange for sufficient rest.

Monitoring Illness

Keep an eye on whether the animal is walking with difficulty or is having difficulty standing. Apart from this, be aware of whether the animal is reluctant to eat or drink water. If you feel any problem, seek the advice of a veterinary doctor immediately.
